Of course you can be everything for everybody!
You can be ALL of you, for whoever needs, wants or desires that what you have to give. And please don't tell me that's bad in business. It isn't!
Somewhere along the way, someone told you to niche down.
Pick a lane. Speak to one avatar. Solve one problem for one type of person, and talk about the same thing the same way every time, so the algorithm and the audience both know exactly what to expect from you. To everyone I have said this to: I am sorry! I completely changed my mind after a deep insight landing in me over the last 2 - 3 months.
It can be good advice for a business that runs on repetition. It’s terrible advice for businesses and women that need to bring their weirdness to the table. Weirdness doesn’t follow a strategy, a line, a lane a prescription. It’s there when it’s there.
You can’t force it. You can’t make it. It’s spontaneous and wild.
Actually, most weird people like myself, try to tame it and make it fit in a flow - or what we think is a flow.
But we aren’t ONE lane. Nobody’s “ONE avatar.” We are women with lived life and experiences that cover multiple disciplines. We have enough lived life to be dozens of people, sometimes in the same week.
You are the one who can talk business strategy over coffee and cry over a song an hour later. You are the one who knows exactly when to give hard advice and exactly when to just sit with someone in silence. You know when to tell someone they need a strategy and when to tell them to ditch it. That isn’t inconsistency.
You have a range of knowledge and wisdom. And that range is the thing the mainstream keeps telling you to water down into something smaller, something safer, something more marketable.
Here is what nobody tells you: the watering down makes you forgettable.
So here’s the part nobody says out loud when they hand you that advice
You aren’t scattered. You’re wide. There’s a difference, in fact, it’s the whole point.
Scattered has no red thread. Wide does. You’re not ten women pretending to be one brand for the algorithm’s sake. You’re one woman, with the range to meet ten different moments, and every one of them is coming from the exact same source. Everything comes from within. Always has.
The mainstream teaches it backwards. Pick your ONE thing. Riches are in the niches. Know your one avatar, solve their one problem, say it the same way every single time so the algorithm can file you and the market can predict you.
Predictable sells courses. It doesn’t necessarily make them better. And it certainly doesn’t make it tailored for each of the clients buying it.
Think about how your mind actually works. It analyses the room, the conversation, the hard truth and the quiet that comes after it. Then it takes all of that and turns it into something nobody else could have said, because nobody else was standing where you were standing, holding all of it at once. You aren’t a specialist, drilling one hole deeper and deeper into the ground. You’re the one who can see the whole field and knows exactly which seed goes where. Deeply, yes. But not just in one place, once problem, one lane. You are a visionary, a sage. You’re wise beyond mainstream. You are wired for it.
.“Everything for everybody” gets misread constantly. It doesn’t mean showing up shapeless so every stranger scrolling by can like you. It’s the opposite of that. You stop watering your range down to fit someone else’s category, and you let your fully-authentically-you-voice reach whoever is actually listening to you full body. Laughter over a coffee. Grief in another conversation an hour later. Hard truth on Tuesday. Silence on Wednesday. One woman. Fully in her own authority. Meeting these different moments, authentically, every time.
Some people will call that unfocused.
That’s okay. They can keep niching themselves down until they fit the template everybody else is already wearing. You’ve watched what that gets a person. A whole room nodding along, and not one thing in that room actually changes.
You didn’t come here for applause. You came here to make a solid impact. You can’t make a real impact in a room full of “nodders”.
So no, you don’t need one lane. You have frequencies, and those frequencies aren’t just one vibe to be utilized in one specific room. The right energy and the right frequency shows up in you when it’s needed. As loud and as strange as it actually is. Your assignment is to trust that the right people feel the click when they hear it.
Some people would arrest me here and say that I am talking to ONE person here. That could be true. I am talking to the weird ones. Those academically, quirky mavericks who don’t want to fit into ONE box.
Are you one or many? Does it matter?
The thing is, that if you feel diverse and refreshingly renewable, then this article is for you. Stop pressing yourself into a form of ONE, and start utilizing ALL of you!
We’re 60+. We’re not stepping down. Not pulling back. We’re just creating in a different way than we were 10-15 years ago.
