Business Comes From Within!®
Hey! I am SO happy today, because Business Comes From Within!® is now officially registered.
I am, in fact, ridiculously happy! About the trademark, for sure, but also because my lifelong conviction is baked into that phrase, and I can’t imagine operating my business without it. I mean, I strongly believe that "EVERYTHING comes from within! But right bnow, I want to talk about Business coming from within, and what that means to us as businesswomen.
I started using this phrase in 2011, and by 2013 it was my slogan - and SO much more!
I am convinced that we can succeed by doing things that go against our soul. I am equally convinced we’ll be exhausted, burnt out and that we probably want to quit after a while. We risk building a business that we hate more than our day job, and that triggers our nervous system several times a day.
We know far more than we give ourselves credit for. I’ve seen businesswomen pull back from speaking up when they are the most skilled person within the area discussed. I’ve seen really clever businesswomen almost hold their mouths because they don’t want to provoke. It’s painful to watch, because I know that they are conditioned to keepo quiet, but they have SO much to say that we all need to hear.
Business Comes From Within!® doesn’t mean that you have to be on your own 100% of the time
It just means that you are so much better off when you check in with yourself before doing anything you can’t stand for, whether it’s other peoples’ staregies, rules, guidelines or meanings.
We tend to take directions from people who have never walk one step in our shoes, and then we complain that it isn’t working. We can’t move forward. It feels like taking a huge step back. But you know what? It’s because you didn’t check in with you.
Of course there are brilliant strategies! That doesn’t mean that brilliant strategy is brilliant for you! You can get absolutely amazing advice, which would work so well for someone else, it just doesn’t work for you.
When I started out in business, one of the things I heard most, was: “Of course this works for you! It works for everybody.” Or, “Of course it works in Norway, it works in the US, and it works everywhere else!” Sometimes they added “Your market isn’t that special!”
It’s got nothing to do with “special”. It has everything to do with different cultures. I’ve travelled to and thropugh more than 70 countries, and I can tell you that culture matters. What works in one country may not even work in the neighbour country.
Hm.. I still hear that from some mentors online. I soometimes ask if they have ever been to the country and know the culture they are so certain they know all about.
Maybe you receive advice on a specific marketing strategy that works for “everybody”, and when you can’t make it work for you, you feel like it’s your fault. You’re not doing it right, or there’s somehting you’re missing. Nope! It just doesn’t work for you. It’s that simple.
Business Comes From Within!® doesn’t mean that everything you do has to be made up by you.
I’ve heard my clients misunderstand “from within” as them sitting in a room meditating or thinking and journaling to figure out exactly what to do in business. One client told me: “I am so glad you said this about within, Jamie, because now I know I don’t need a mentor to tell me anything.”
That’s not exactly what I meant.
Now, this client may not need a mentor. However, a mentor can still ask you questions you never thought about asking yourself. Or give you advice you all of a sudden hear a different way. Coming from within doesn’t mean YOU are the one who have to make all the things up. It means that you have to check in with yourself to see if what you are about to do resonates.
The right mentor doesn’t replace your authority or try to decide for you. We’re done with the “follow my ten steps” and “one size fits all”-theories. A mentor, guide or coach can help you go deeper. Ask the questions that really take you inside of yourself. They can help you really hear what your soul is screaming. All the information and noise we’re surrounded with can cover it up. But deeply listening to yourself concours everything.
So please, hold your authority tight.
Your authority trumphs everything! If you cannot make yourself do something, then please don’t.
Do I give advice? Obviously! I’d suck as a mentor if I didn’t. But I make sure I know the answers to important questions before I do. And sometimes the best coaching is a question. A really good question that makes the client come up with an answer they never believed they could.
I’ve tried to push through so hard. Do what my mentor told me would work, even though I had so much proof that it didn’t work for me. I was sure I was doing it wrong, that I was missing a piece, or just didn’t have it in me. I tried to push through like a Manifesting Generator, and ended up exhausted! Not once. Many times. So many times that it’s embarrassing.
I think I have learned to trust my inner authority. Even when businessowners who make BIG money tell me to do something that goes against my convictions. It can be rough to say no to someone you know are succeeding because you just know that their strategy is wrong for you. It’s rougher then they are SO convinced that you’re just not doing what you “should”. However….
Business Comes From Within!®
I trademarked it because I believe it on the deepest of levels. In the core of my soul.
I’m celebrating today, because a phrase I have used for 15 years is finally trademarked. Mine. My conviction with an ® behind.
I had no idea I would be so ridiculously, childishly HAPPY about it!
Please celebrate with me
